MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track and Field program is thrilled to announce the signing of Zachary Bright of Idaho Falls High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Zac has won two state titles despite not having a junior track and field season due to Covid-19. He was the 2019 4A Idaho State Champion in cross country as a junior. He was also the Idaho 4A State Champion in the 800m as a sophomore, showing his range.

Zac has been a leader and key athlete on a historic cross country team at Idaho Falls. During his four years of high school, Idaho Falls has won four State Championships as a team in cross country. Three at the 4A level and again this year jumping to the 5A level. This year's team would be a favorite to make the Nike Cross National meet if it were being contested. They won the state meet with 23 points. Zac finished third this fall at the Idaho State Cross Country meet as a senior.

Success has come on the track for Zac as well. Not having the opportunity to defend his state title in the 800m as a junior, Zac ran a series of time trials this last spring. He ran personal bests of 1:54.3 in the 800m and 4:17.8 in the 1600m.

Zac is continuing a strong Vandal tradition in his family, with both his parents alums of the University of Idaho and his older sister on campus now in Moscow.

"We are excited to have someone with the range that Zac has joining the Vandal family. He is an excellent student and a leader and will fit in well with the team," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
