MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track and Field program is excited to announce the signing of Dante Cox of Smithville High School in Smithville, Mo.
Dante is a multi-sport star who will focus on track and field at the college level. He has primarily been a high jumper and has a personal best of six feet six inches, a mark he achieved this last summer at the Pony Express Track Classic in Troy, Mo. He was a Junior Olympic All-American high jumper during the 2019 season when he placed fourth at the AAU Junior Olympic National Championship meet.
He has been a varsity level athlete at Smithville High in basketball, soccer, and volleyball as well as track and field. He was the Defensive Player of the Year on the Smithville basketball team and achieved Academic All-State in volleyball.
Dante had a very consistent 2019 season as a sophomore in which he had seven first-place finishes. He missed his regular season due to Covid-19 in 2020, but looks to jump higher than ever in 2021.
"Dante has some raw talent and is a good athlete. He also excels in the classroom and he is a talented student. We are excited and feel he is a fantastic fit to the Vandal family," said
Tim Cawley, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
