The Vandals earned their second bowl opportunity with a spot in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl. It was Idaho's second appearance in the H-Bowl, after winning in 1998.
Bowling Green took control early and held a 14-7 advantage at the half. The Vandals responded with an Eric Greenwood touchdown, from Nathan Enderle, to level the score at 14 at the break. Things got interesting from there with both offenses exploding in the second half. Idaho did the majority of the damage in the third, taking a 14-point advantage midway through the quarter.
Bowling Green bounced back to level the score and ultimately take a seven-point lead at 42-35 with just 32 seconds to play.
