MOSCOW, Idaho –The University of Idaho women's basketball (2-2) team fell to Washington State University (2-0) 74-55 in Pullman. After each team scored nine points in the first period the Vandals took the lead 27-23 at the half. The second half was all Cougars as they as they led by 10 midway through the third period and never looked back.
Sydney Gandy paced Idaho in scoring with 16 points as four Vandals scored in double-figures.
THE GAME
Idaho and Washington State each struggled offensively in the first half only scoring nine points. The Vandals' offense began to click in the second period outscoring the Cougars 18-14. After trading buckets to begin the period both squads were tied at 14 apiece. The Vandals then built a lead 21-14 following a 7-0 run over the next two minutes. A three-pointer from
Gina Marxen broke the tie and sophomore
Beyonce Bea capped the run with a jumper in the paint at the 6:27 mark. The Vandals held a 27-23 lead at halftime. Out of halftime Idaho and WSU traded buckets before an 11-0 run by the Cougars gave them a 36-29 lead four minutes into the second half. Freshman
Sydney Gandy trimmed the deficit to four, 38-34 following a three-pointer at the 5:02 mark. WSU outscored Idaho 17-7 down the stretch of the third period. Idaho chipped in 14 points in the fourth period led by Marxen and
Paris Atchley who each totaled six points, but it wasn't enough as WSU took the win 74-55.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Vandals. Freshman
Sydney Gandy led Idaho with 16 points while
Beyonce Bea totaled 15.
Gina Marxen and
Paris Atchley each totaled 11 points.
Idaho made seven three-pointers in the contest compared to just four by the Cougars.
Bea led all players on the boards with nine rebounds. However, WSU outrebounded the Vandals 51-38.
