MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track and Field program is excited to announce the commitment of Eimy Martinez of North Salem High School in Salem, Ore.

Eimy is one of the top prospects coming out of the state of Oregon in the 2021 class. She discovered distance running a little later, having a background as a sprinter and cheerleader, but has quickly and consistently improved at North Salem. During her junior cross country season, Eimy placed 15th at the Oregon 5A State Cross Country Championships, helping her team secure a state trophy with a fourth place finish. She has a personal best of 18:55 for 5000m on a cross country course. She also placed 14th at the Oregon State Championship Cross Country meet as a sophomore in her first cross season.

During her sophomore track and field season Eimy qualified and placed at the State Track and Field Championships in the 1500m. She has a personal best of 4:52.87 in the 1500m. Her points helped North Salem place first at the Oregon State Track and Field Championships as a team. She unfortunately missed her junior track and field season like many athletes across the country due to covid-19.

Eimy has a lot of potential and continues to improve. This fall she ran a personal best of 10:22.60 in the 3000m alone in a time trial while wearing a mask.

"We are excited to have Eimy join the team. She has a big upside with where her training age is at and should do some great things here. She is also a fantastic student and will fit in well with our Vandal family," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
