MOSCOW, Idaho- The University of Idaho Women's basketball team (2-0,2-0) defeated Sacramento State 81-70 completing the opening weekend sweep. The Vandals featured a balanced offensive attack again tonight with five players scoring in double-figures. Idaho led the entire game and by as many as 28 points down the stretch. Sophomore
Beyonce Bea led the Vandals with 17 points and chipped in eight rebounds. Idaho again dominated on the glass hauling in 59 rebounds. Senior
Natalie Klinker led the way with 19 boards, setting a Memorial Gym record.
THE GAME
Idaho opened the first period on a quick 7-0 run capped with a
Gabi Harrington bucket in the paint.
After trading buckets with the Hornets a 6-0 run gave the Vandals a 11 point advantage 18-7 with 3:12 to play in the first.
The Vandals continued to pour on points in the second period extending the lead to 20, 36-16 following a jumper from
Hailey Christopher at the 2:58 mark.
At the half Idaho led 40-20.
Natalie Klinker recorded 11 of her 19 rebounds in the first half of play.
Out of halftime Idaho picked up where they left off and scored a game-high 29 points in the third period. To open the period the squad outscored Sacramento State 8-0 after a quick eight points form Bea and Harrington giving Idaho their largest lead of the game.
The Vandals lead stayed above 19 points the rest of the way in the third. Harrignton totaled 12 points in the period while Bea added nine. Marxen drilled two threes to chip in six points in the period. Idaho held a 69-43 after three.
Freshman
Sydney Gandy added five points for the Vandals in the fourth period en route to an 81-70 win.
THE NOTES
Five players scored in double-figures led by
Beyonce Bea who totaled 17 points including 13 in the second half. She also chipped in eight rebounds.
Gabi Harrington totaled 16 points in the win, 12 of which came in the third period.
Gina Marxen had 12 points to go along with a team-high eight assists.
Freshmen
Sydney Gandy and Paris Atchely contributed 13 and 10 respectively.
Natalie Klinker chipped in seven points and was dominant on the glass with 19 rebounds. Her 19 boards tied Alyssa Charleston and Karen Poncina for the ninth most all -time in a single game and set a record in Memorial Gym. The senior played 19 minutes and also chipped in two steals.
Idaho outrebounded the Hornets 59-37 including a 22-9 advantage on the glass.

THE NAME
Gina Marxen scored 12 points for the Vandals and dished out eight assists to go along with four rebounds and four steals. She drained four three-pointers and finished 40 percent from beyond the arc.
