Vandals Drop Road Battle to Bears

GREELEY, Colo. – The Idaho men's basketball team fell to Northern Colorado, 93-49, on Thursday evening. The Bears (20-8, 13-4 BSC) overwhelmed the Vandals (7-21, 3-14 BSC) from the start.

THE GAME
The Vandals jumped out to a 4-0 lead with jumpers by Damen Thacker and Trevon Allen getting things going. However, with four minutes played, the Bears tied up the game, and proceeded to take a lead they would not relinquish. The two teams battled back-and-forth until UNC used a 10-0 run to take a 29-17 lead with just under five minutes until halftime. A three-pointer by Sam Masten just before the buzzer gave the Bears a 24-point lead, 46-22, as the teams went to the break.
 
Trevon Allen nailed a three-pointer to open the scoring in the second half, but Northern Colorado stayed hot in the second period. The Bears outscored the Vandals, 47-27, in the final 20 minutes, taking the win, 93-49, as the team kept pace in the battle for the one-seed.
 
Trevon Allen led the Vandals with 14 points and six rebounds, while Ja'Vary Christmas chipped in 13.
 
THE NOTES
Gabe Quinnett got his first career start. The freshman finished the game with four points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 26 minutes.
 
The Vandals were outrebounded, 36-29. The Bears scored 16 second chance points off nine offensive boards, while Idaho had four second chance points.
 
The Bears scored 40 points in the paint compared to 24 for the Vandals.
 
UNC shot 54 percent (34-for-63) from the floor and 48.3 percent (14-for-29) from beyond the arc. Idaho was 38 percent (19-50) from the floor.
 
THE NAME
Trevon Allen. Allen led the Vandals in scoring for the 21st time this season. He finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and a steal in 30 minutes.
