Vandals close out regular season in Battle of the Domes

MOSCOW, Idaho- 
The University of Idaho women's basketball team will travel to Pocatello, Idaho for the final game of the 2019-20 regular season. Following Wednesday's win over Weber State, Idaho will head to Pocatello for the Battle of the Domes against Idaho State after securing the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky Conference Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., Friday, Mar. 6th. 

The Vandals (19-9, 14-5) are coming off a 91-57 win over Weber State on Wednesday in Ogden, riding a four-game win streak. Idaho State (17-11, 13-6) enters their final game of the season on a five-game win streak, following a 77-49 win over Eastern Washington. Idaho State currently holds the three seed in the conference tournament.
 
Idaho and Idaho State last met on Dec. 28th, 2019 in Moscow. Idaho took down the Bengals 62-56, led 16 points each from Gina Marxen and Beyonce Bea.

SCOUTING IDAHO


Idaho enters its final regular season game against Idaho State.

Gina Marxen leads the Vandals in scoring this season with 13.9 points per game and in assists with 4.5 per game. Marxen dished out a career-high 12 assists against Eastern Washington earlier this season. The sophomore from Sammamish, Washington leads the Big Sky in three-pointers made (86) and three-pointers made per game (3.1). In addition, Marxen leads the Big Sky in minutes played per game with 37.3. She totaled 13 points, two rebounds, and six assists last time out against Weber State. Marxen has hit 151 career three-pointers as a Vandal which places her in 8th place all-time.

Last time vs. Idaho State: In the first game of the season against Idaho State Marxen totaled 16 points and two rebounds.
 
Beyonce Bea is right behind Marxen, averaging 12.8 points per game. The freshman from Washougal, Washington is playing an average of 34.0 minutes per game this season, more than any freshman in the conference. Bea scored a career-high 30 points along with a career-high seven assists and 10 rebounds for her second career double-double against Sacramento State two games ago. The freshman chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds last time out against Weber State. Bea is averaging 6.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season while making an average of five field-goals per game.

Last time vs. Idaho State: Bea totaled 16 points against Idaho State earlier this season while also recording seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.

Lizzy Klinker rounds out a group of three players averaging double-figures this season with 12.6 points per game and had a career-high 27 against Northern Arizona five games ago. Klinker, a senior, has recorded four double-doubles as a Vandal and is coming off an 18-point, six rebounds, performance at Weber State. Lizzy has scored 17 points or more in four of the last five games.

Last time vs. Idaho State: Lizzy had four points and five rebounds during the first meeting this season with the Bengals.   
 
Natalie Klinker leads the Vandals on the boards this season with 7.0 rebounds per game. The junior also ranks second in the Big Sky in offensive rebounding with 2.8 per game. Natalie totaled eight points and six rebounds last time out against Weber State.

Last time vs. Idaho State: Natalie did not play against Idaho State earlier this season.
 
Idaho continues to lead the Big Sky defensively in field-goal percentage defense and scoring defense. The Vandals lead the conference in scoring defense allowing just 59.5 points per game. If the tough defense continues Idaho could set an all-time school record surpassing 58.7 points per game from the 1979-1980 season.
The Vandals are also one of the best teams in the country in terms of turnovers. Idaho averaged just 11.5 turnovers per game which leads the Big Sky, while only committing 321 turnovers, the fourth fewest in NCAA Division I


SCOUTING THE BENGALS

Idaho State (17-11, 13-6) enters the contest following five consecutive wins. The Bengals are coming off 77-49 win at home over Eastern Washington.

The Bengals are led by two players scoring in double-digits per game. Dora Goles and Callie Bourne each lead Idaho State with 12.5 points per game this season. Goles and is shooting 40.6 percent from three-point range and was named the Big Sky Player of the week earlier this season following a 36-point performance.

Last time vs. Idaho: Goles scored just six points during the first meeting with Idaho this season and was 0-of-1 from three-point range.

Bourne is averaging 12.5 points per game along with a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game.  

Last time vs. Idaho: Bourne scored just five points against the Vandals earlier this season but also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.

Idaho State's defense ranks second in the Big sky, behind Idaho, allowing just 60.4 points per game. The Bengals are second in the Big Sky in scoring margin, outscoring opponents by an average of 8.1 points per game.  


LAST TIME OUT VS IDAHO STATE

Idaho and Idaho State last met on Dec. 28th, 2019 in Cowan-Spectrum Arena. Idaho topped the Bengals 62-56, including 16 points each from Beyonce Bea and Gina Marxen.
 

SERIES HISTORY

Idaho is 32-13 all-time against the Bengals and are currently on a one-game winning streak in the series. Idaho has not won back-to-back games in the series since 1996 win they won three in a row.
