MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho Track & Field program is excited to announce the commitment of Sam Fulbright of Fergus High School in Lewiston, Mont.

Sam was the Montana Class A State Champion in cross country during his senior season. After a fantastic season, which included running a personal best of 15:51 over 5000m at the Great Falls XC Invitational, Sam won the state championship race by seven seconds in 16:10.5.

Sam qualified for the Montana State Cross Country meet all four years of high school. He placed 14th as a freshman, sixth as a sophomore, and second as a junior at the state championships before winning as a senior.

Despite not being able to compete his senior sea-on of track & field, where he was a favorite to win State Championship titles in the 1600m and 3200m, Sam has had a great career on the track as well. He placed second in the 3200m and third in the 1600m as a junior at the Montana State Track & Field Championships. Sam also placed fifth in the 3200m and sixth in the 1600m as a sophomore and qualified in both of those events as a freshman at the state level.

Sam has personal bests of 4:33.36 in the 1600m and 9:53.07 in the 3200m.

"Sam is a very smart young man who works hard. He has a competitive spirit and drive that will fit with our team well and we are so glad to have him join our Vandal family," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country.
