Vandals Close Season with Annual Awards

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball got together for one final time before the summer break, looking back on the year that was at the annual team awards presentation. Due to extraordinary circumstances, the team met digitally over Zoom.

Head coach Zac Claus and the Vandals' staff handed out seven awards on the night, as voted on by the team at the end of the season.

Trevon Allen took home the Ronald White Award for the team's most outstanding player. The senior won the award for the second consecutive year. Allen led the Vandals in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game which was second in the Big Sky and 15th in the nation. He led the Vandals in scoring in 25 games this season and was named to the All-Big Sky Conference Second Team. Allen reached the 1,000-point plateau this season and finished up his four-year career with 1395 points, which is eighth on the all-time Idaho career scoring list.

For the second year in a row, Scott Blakney earned the Kathy Clark Award for combined athletics and academic excellence.  Blakney was named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team for the third straight season and was second on the team in scoring.

Damen Thacker earned two awards. He was named the Mike Sprenger Award recipient. The award goes to the student-athlete that embodies what a Vandal should be, by showing grit, heart and character. Thacker also received the Jay Gano Award from most inspirational. Thacker led the team in charges taken, and earned his way into the starting lineup.

Chance Garvin earned the Oz Thompson Award, given to the student-athlete that best inspires sportsmanship, scholarship and leadership. Garvin who began as a walk-on on the Vandal squad, earned a scholarship prior to the 2019-20 season.

Gabe Quinnett was named the George Green Award recipient, given to the team's most unselfish player. Due to injuries and a short bench, the freshman was asked to give up his red shirt, and he immediately agreed for the good of the team. Quinnett earned his way into a spot in the starting lineup at the end of the season.

Finally, Quinton Forrest earned the Gus Johnson Award. Named after the legendary Vandal, the award is given to Idaho's top rebounder/defender. Forrest was consistently undersized in his battles under the basket but led Idaho with 5.4 boards per game.
