MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is excited to announce the commitment of Ryland McCullough of Northwest Christian High School in Lacey, Wash.

Ryland is an exceptional middle-distance talent who ran his first three years of high school at Crater High in Central Point, Ore. His highest achievement came as a sophomore when he placed third at the Oregon State Track & Field Championships in the 800m. He has a personal best of 1:55.29 in the 800m and 4:05.76 in the 1500m.

Ryland also contributed to outstanding team achievements at Crater. He was a key member of a State Championship Cross Country team at Crater in 2017 as a sophomore. He placed 17th at the state cross country meet in that effort. He repeated that performance as a junior when Crater again won another state title with Ryland in the team's top five. Ryland placed 33rd at the Washington State Cross Country Championships as a senior for NW Christian. His personal best in cross country is 15:56 over 5000m.

Ryland was poised to have his most successful track & field season in high school at his new school until the season was cancelled due to Covid-19.

"We're excited to add Ryland to the Vandal family. He has good range and is an aggressive competitor. He's going to fit in well with the team," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country.
