Bea and Casino named Vandals of the Week

MOSCOW, Idaho – Beyonce Bea and Bruno Casino have been named this week's Vandals of the Week for their outstanding performance in the classroom last semester. 

Bea, a sophomore on the Idaho Women's Basketball team registered a 4.0 in the spring and has a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. 

She is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science with a pre-PT emphasis with the goal of being a doctor. 

"My career goal is to go to med school and become a doctor, right now I'm not one hundred percent sure which type of doctor," said Bea. "I am kind of interested in being a PA or radiologist at first." 

Being recognized for her academic performance is something that has always been important to Bea. 

"It's something I have always worked hard to do by best at," Bea added. "To be recognized is awesome and is a goal of mine every single year."

Last semester her favorite class was anatomy.

 "It has to do with what I am interested in and it is the first class like that I have taken," said Bea. "We got to work with cadavers which is something not a lot of people get to do, which was really interesting."

Bea earned Big Sky Conference All-Conference Third team honors last season on the court while achieving a 4.0, and was the Vandals third-best scorer at 12.6 points per game. 

Being a student-athlete has taught Bea how to responsible in the classroom. 

"Basketball helps you with time management," said Bea. "It's taught me how to stay responsible and not procrastinate."

Casino, a junior on the Vandals men's tennis team also registered a 4.0 in the spring and has a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. He is majoring in Biological Engineering. 

"I like to let the professors know that I am good in academics," said Casino. "Being recognized shows I can excel in tennis and my academic performance." 

Last semester Casino's favorite class was Organic Chemistry. "I've always liked Chemistry," said Casino "It was interesting, and I was able to learn new information."

During the 2020 season, Casino, while excelling in the classroom, recorded four singles wins and five doubles wins on the court before the season was cut short.
