CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Idaho men's golf team ended the Oregon State Invitational on Tuesday, by shooting 49-over, 901.
DAY 1
A shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. got the invitational underway on Monday. The Vandals combined to shoot 29-over, 597 on the par-71, 7,384-yard course through 36 holes.
Sophomore Joe Gustavel and Senior Jack Plaster both ended the first day of play 6-over, 148. Gustavel carded three birdies in both rounds, while Plaster started the day 6-over, 77 in the first 18 holes but answered back in the afternoon to shoot an even 71.
Sophomore Jose Suryadinata shot 9-over, 151 through 36 holes, finding the cup for birdie six times. Senior Colt Sherrel followed by scoring 11-over, 153 with four birdies.
Matt McGann, a Sophomore from Spokane, WA shot 11-over, 153. He would card four birdies and an eagle for the team on hole-16.
Tommy McKenzie, a Freshman from Calgary, Alberta played as an individual and had a finishing score of 13-over, 155.
DAY 2
Sherrel had his best round of the invitational, as he drilled four birdies, and an eagle on hole-5. He finished the day at 1-over, 72, and a total tournament score of 10-over, 223.
Suryadinata had one birdie in the final round and finished the day with a final tournament score of 33-over, 226.
Plaster showed off a consistent performance through three rounds, as he finished with a total score of 13-over, 226.
Gustavel finished tournament play 14-over, 227 while teammates McGann and McKenzie ended the invitational with a final score of 20-over, 233.
The University of Washington led the tournament and finished first at 14-under, 838. RJ Manke (Washington) finished 9-under, 204 to take the top spot at the tournament.
The Vandals will have almost two weeks of rest before they head to 'Ewa Beach, Hawaii for the Hoakalei CC Invitational for a two day event, Oct 25-26.
