HILLSBORO, Ore. – The women's squad raced their way to a fourth-place finish after scoring 109 points while the men's team locked up fifth place (137) to round out Friday's competition at the 2021 Big Sky Cross Country Championships.
Freshman Katja Pattis finished in 10th place to lead the Vandals with a time of 16:55.9 while junior Kelsey Swenson was next in 13th in 17:01.7. Pattis was selected as an all-conference team member following her top-10 finish while also being named the women's Big Sky Freshman of the Year.
Senior
Nathalia Campos crossed the finish line in 29th place with a final time of 17:31.4. Teammates
Leah Holmgren (17:34.1),
Jolene Whiteley (17:36.2), and
Nell Baker (17:38.6) finished next for Idaho as the three placed 31st, 32nd, and 33rd.
Maya Kobylanski placed 57th after completing the race in 18:27.0 and teammate
Elise Abbott clocked a time of 18:33.9 to take 61st for the women.
The men were led by junior
Tim Stevens in 18th with a time of 24:21.3. Sophomore
Shea Mattson completed the race in 24:33.0 to place 24th while junior
Gabriel Dinnel (24:36.3) and sophomore
Lorenz Herrmann (24:37.2) followed behind in 25th and 26th.
Gabe Zanette would finish in 46th with a time of 25:22.6 and
Michael McCausland finished in 25:28.0.
Sam Fulbright (25:46.9) and
Cruz Flores (26:18.6) rounded out Idaho's finishers for the afternoon.
Northern Arizona earned the top spot in the team standings for both sides.
The Vandals will prepare for the 2021 NCAA Cross Country West Regional in Sacramento that is set to take place on Nov. 12.
