Idaho Adds Talented Australian Distance Runner

The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is excited to announce the commitment of Abigail Thomas from Caroline Springs, Australia.

Abigail has extensive experience and success competing at a national level. In February of 2020 she became the U18 Victorian State 2000 meter steeplechase champion in a personal best of 7:13.06 seconds. This time ranked Abigail 3rd in Australia and qualified her for the U18 National Championships which were unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. At the Simplot Games in 2020 she finished 7th out of 101 girls in the 800 meters.

This past spring Abigail continued her success on the track. Competing at the U20 level, she won the silver medal at the Victorian State National Championships, in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and placed 5th at the Australian National Championships with a personal best 11:00.46 seconds. Abigail is also talented outside of the steeplechase and boasts a personal best of 4:37.1 in the 1500 meters which she set at the AVSL Playoffs last March placing 2nd.

"We are so excited to announce Abigail will be joining our Vandal track family. She has excelled on the track and in the classroom and will fit in great with the team."
