MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men's basketball team fell to Washington State, 109-61, on Thursday night at ICCU Arena. Senior Mikey Dixon tallied his fourth consecutive double-digit performance with 12 points while forward Tanner Christensen added seven points in his first action of the season.
The Vandals opened up the game strong, holding an early 6-2 lead following back-to-back 3-pointers from Dixon and Gabe Quinnett. The Cougars would respond with a 24-4 run to put Idaho down 26-10 with just under nine minutes to play in the first half.
The Vandals were able to find some rhythm on the offensive end and fend off another run from Washington State as Idaho found themselves down 47-29 at the half.
Turnovers proved to be costly for the Idaho offense in the first 20 minutes as the Cougars turned 11 takeaways into 28 points to help build their lead.
The Vandals shot 4 of 9 from the 3-point line and added 11-second chance points from four offensive rebounds in the first half.
The Cougars began the second half on a 10-3 run, pushing their lead to 57-32. WSU continued to assert their will on the offensive end with an efficient 63% shooting percentage that the Vandals were unable to come back from. The Cougars took home the victory, 109-61.
