RENO, Nev. – Idaho women's basketball fell to Drake 83-66 Sunday at the Nugget Classic in Reno, Nevada.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-3 lead early before the Vandals rallied to tie the game at 9-9. The two teams battled with Idaho taking a 16-15 lead with 29 seconds left in the first quarter before a pair of Drake free throws put the Bulldogs up 17-16 after one.
The second quarter was much of the same. While Drake led most of the frame, Idaho kept it close and cut the advantage to 39-35 on a three-pointer by
Jordan Allred heading into the half.
Idaho again kept the Bulldogs within arms' reach in the third, cutting the lead to 61-55 with 24 second left in the quarter, but a Drake layup at the buzzer sparked a 6-0 Bulldog run and Drake pulled away in the fourth for the 17-point win.
Sydney Gandy led Idaho with 13 points and
Louise Forsyth tallied 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Idaho was 22-66 (33.3%) from the field and 14-33 (42.4%) from the three-point line.
The Vandals fall to 1-5 on the season in a brutal early schedule for Idaho. Four of the five losses come against teams that are currently in the top 100 on MasseyRatings.com and the fourth was Saturday's one-point loss in a true road game at Nevada.

The Vandals open Big Sky play with a game against Southern Utah Saturday at 1 p.m. Pacific in Cedar City, Utah. The Thunderbirds are 2-4 on the season but play Eastern Washington Thursday in their Big Sky opener.
