Women's Basketball Sets Three-Point Record in Win Over Lewis-Clark State

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho women's basketball team (1-0,0-0 BSC) defeated Lewis-Clark State College 95-46 to open the 2021-22 season at ICCU Arena on Tuesday night. The Vandals recorded a school-record 21 three-point field goals and featured four double-digit scorers to earn the 49-point victory.

Graduate student Allison Kirby had an all-around performance for the Vandals, tallying 10 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Sophomore sharpshooter Sydney Gandy led the team in scoring with 20 points on 4 of 10 from behind the three-point line.

Newcomers Louise Forsyth and Jordan Allred made their first-career appearance in an Idaho uniform and they did not disappoint. Forsyth totaled 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Allred hit six three-pointers to finish with 18 points in her freshman debut.

The Vandal offense began the game missing their first nine shots before Louise Forsyth drained one of her four three-point field goals on the night to get Idaho on the board. The Vandals were able to get into a groove near the end of the quarter after junior Beyonce Bea nailed a buzzer-beater from the free-throw line to make it 19-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Idaho provided some breathing room in the second quarter after a 22-5 spurt that put the score at 41-13 with just over 3 minutes left to play before half. Jordan Allred knocked down three baskets from behind the arc in the remaining minutes to extend the Vandal lead to 53-20 going into halftime. The Idaho offense went 10-13 from the three-point line in the quarter to go along with 37 bench points.

Out of the break, Idaho kept the hot hand as they shot 47 percent from the field in the third quarter. The Vandals outscored LCSC 27-12 with 27-second chance points to keep a comfortable 80-32 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

A three-pointer from Allred early in the fourth quarter saw the Vandal lead increase to 57 points - the largest on the night. Idaho would earn the opening night victory, 95-46.

The 21 three-point baskets made was the most in Idaho women's basketball history, eclipsing their total of 19 set against Montana back in 2019.

The all-around team performance saw 11 different players score on the night with a combined 32 points coming from the freshmen class.

Idaho will return to ICCU Arena on Saturday afternoon to continue their three-game homestand against San Diego at 1 p.m.
