CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Idaho Women's Basketball team will open Big Sky Conference play on the road against Southern Utah.

The Vandals are coming off of a tough holiday weekend in Reno, Nevada. Idaho went 0-3 in the Nugget Classic with losses to San Francisco, Nevada and Drake. Against San Francisco, The Vandals held a four point lead at the half, but struggled to start the third quarter. The Dons surged ahead and held on to the lead down the stretch to win 77-70. Day two saw the Vandals fall in a tough back-and-forth affair to host Nevada 61-60. The Vandals led by seven with four minutes left in regulation, but two Wolfpack free-throws with :04 left in the game allowed Nevada to escape with the win. Drake held a slight advantage throughout the game and was able to pull away down the stretch to win big. The Bulldogs connected on 11 made 3-point field goals, which are the most the Vandals have given up all season.
Allison Kirby was named to the all-tournament team she averaged 10.7 points and 9.7 rebounds a game, including an impressive 15 rebound 14 point double-double against San Francisco.
SOUTHERN UTAH
The Thunderbirds are 3-4 on the season and opened conference play on Dec. 2 at home with a 60-46 win over Eastern Washington. SUU is averaging 72.4 points per game and is shooting 41.7 percent from the field. They are lead by Lizzy Williamson's 12.6 points and 9.4 rebounds a game.

The Vandals are approaching 700 wins as a program. The 2021-22 season is the 46th season of women's hoops at Idaho with an all-time record of 699-641 (.521 winning percentage)
3-POINT DEFENSE
The Vandal perimeter defense has been on point through three games, holding opponents to just 25.4 percent from beyond the arc (31-122).
SEEING DOUBLE
Allison Kirby (15reb, 14pt) and
Louise Forsyth (14pt, 11 reb) each recorded a double-double in the loss to San Francisco. Kirby has two double-doubles in six games this season.
EARLY GAUNTLET
The Vandals are 1-5 in a brutal early schedule for Idaho. Four of the five losses come against teams that are currently in the top 100 on MasseyRatings.com and the fourth was Saturday's one-point loss in a true road game at Nevada.
KEEPING IT 100
Allison Kirby is 100 percent from the free-throw line. She is 20-20 from the charity stripe and is tied for first in county.
