Champion Oregon Distance Runner Commits to Idaho

The University of Idaho Track and Field program is thrilled to announce the commitment of Zac Knapp of Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Oregon.

Zac's list of accolades is long and impressive. As a sophomore in 2019 Zac showed tremendous promise as a distance runner posting a personal best time of 9:11.6 seconds in the 3000 meters placing first at the Oregon
1A/2A State Championship. After a shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19, Zac returned to the track this past spring and resumed his championship pursuits. He was a double state champion, in the 1500 meters and 3000 meters, at the 2A Oregon State Championships where he ran a personal best time in the 1500 meters of 4:10.88.

The 2021 cross country season was another stellar campaign for Zac. At the 3A/2A/1A District 3 Championship in October he set a new personal best in the 5K with an outstanding finishing time of 15:14.70. This time won the race and set a new school record at Enterprise. He followed this performance up at the Oregon State Championship by placing first place by a winning by a margin of 36 seconds and leading his team to the 3A/2A/1A team championship. Zac concluded his cross country season at the prestigious Nike Cross Regional meet where he finished 18th out of 188 runners in the championship division, a field of the top competitors from across Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

Along with his success on the track and on the course, Zac is equally impressive in the classroom as he has twice been named Outstanding Male Student of the Class of 2022 (2019, 2020) at Enterprise High School.

"Zac is a great addition to the Vandal family. He brings talent to the track and the classroom and he fits in well with our mission." -Tim Cawley, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
