Box Score SACRAMENTO- California – The University of Idaho Volleyball team fell to Sacramento State in game one of the series, 3-1 in Sacramento. The Hornets took the first two sets, going up 2-0, before the Vandals took game three. The Hornets closed out the match win, winning set four.
Kennedy Warren led the Vandals with 15 kills in the match. She also had eight digs.
Peyten Ely totaled 36 assists in the contest.
Becca Owen had a team-high 19 digs while
Alaina Lacey and
Allison Munday chipped in 10 and 9, respectively. Freshman
Delaney Nicoll had a career-high, totaling nine kills in the contest, hitting .353.
Avery Housley added eight kills.
Nikki Ball and Munday each had four total blocks in the contest. Ball had three block assists and one solo block while Munday had four block assists. Owen also had two service aces for the Vandals.
Sacramento State struck first in the contest, but a kill from
Avery Housley quickly tied the contest up 2-2. The Hornets responded with a 14-3 run, taking a 16-5 lead over the Vandals. A 6-3 run from the Vandals cut the lead to eight, 19-11, following a kill from travel Morris. The Hornets held off Idaho the rest of the way, winning the first set, 25-15.
Much like the first set, Sacramento took control from the beginning and led 10-5, early. Down 18-11, the Vandals went on a 5-3 run, which included a pair of
Kennedy Warren kills, cutting the lead to five, 21-16. The Hornets would go on to win the set, 25-22.
Housley tied the third set, 7-7, following a kill, sparking a 4-1 run. A kill from
Delaney Nicoll capped the run, giving Idaho a 10-8 lead. All tied up at 16, the Vandals scored three straight points behind two more kills from Nicoll, taking a 19-16 lead. Two more kills from Warren and one from Housley down the stretch helped the Vandals to their first set-win of the match, 25-22.
Idaho opened the fourth set up 2-0, which quickly became a 5-4 lead for the Hornets.
Nikki Ball tied the set, 5-5, but the Vandals would not tie or lead the rest of the way as the Hornets won 25-19, winning the match 3-1.
Sacramento State edged the Vandals in kills, 60-47 and hit .280. The Vandals hit just .181 in the contest.
Each side had three solo blocks, but the Hornets had 18 block assists compared to just 11 for the Vandals.
The Hornets notched six service aces in the match while Idaho had just two, both coming from Owen.
