Box Score SACRAMENTO- California – The University of Idaho Volleyball team fell to Sacramento State, in the second game of the series on Sunday night, 3-1. The Vandals (4,4,2-2) fell behind to the Hornets (5-3,5-3) 2-0 in the match before winning the third set. The comeback bid fell short for the Vandals, falling 25-21 in the fourth set and 3-1 in the match.
Kennedy Warren led the Vandals with 11 kills in the match. She also had four total blocks.
Peyten Ely totaled 25 assists and Donne'e Janzen had 11.
Alaina Lacey had a team-high 17 digs while
Avery Housley and Ely chipped in 11 and 10, respectively.
Nikki Ball had a team-high six total blocks, including one solo. Lacey had both service aces for the Vandals.
Idaho opened the contest on a 3-0 run following a pair of Sacramento State attack errors and an
Allison Munday kill. The Hornets climbed out of the 3-0 hole and the two sides traded points back and forth for the ensuing possessions. A block assist from
Nikki Ball and
Peyten Ely tied the contest up,15-15 before the Hornets took a four-point lead, 20-16. Sacramento State went on to win the first set 25-19.
Sacramento State took an early 3-1 lead in the second set before an
Avery Housley kill knotted the score at four apiece. The Hornets responded, sprinting to a four-point lead, 10-6. A bad set by the Hornets cut the lead to one, 9-10, but the Vandals wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way. Sacramento State used an 8-4 run to take a 18-13 lead, and would go on to win the set, 25-18.
The Hornets jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the third set. Down 9-4, the Vandals used a 5-0 run, tying the set up 9-9, following a Hornet attacking error.
Delaney Nicoll gave the Vandals a 12-11 lead following a kill. A kill from
Allison Munday put the Vandals up four, 16-12, midway through the set. The Hornets raced back, taking a 19-18 lead after a Housley attacking error. Tied 21-21,
Nikki Ball notched a kill, putting the Vandals up 22-21. Ball and Nicole then added a block extending the lead to two points, 23-21. Ball and Munday sealed the set win, 25-22, with a block at the end.
Much like the third set, Sacramento State led in the early goings. Down 4-1, the Vandals eventually worked their way back, tying the contest at 11 all following a service ace from
Alaina Lacey. Ball put the Vandals up by three, 18-15 late in the set. A 7-0 run for the Hornets gave the home side a 22-18 lead. The Vandals were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 25-21 in the set and 3-1 in the match.
Sacramento State narrowly edged the Vandals in kills, 51-48 and hit .181. The Vandals hit just .154 in the contest.
Idaho had 10 total blocks while the Hornets totaled 15.
The Hornets notched five service aces in the match while Idaho had just two, both coming from Lacey.
