MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho (0-19, 0-16 BSC) men's basketball team fell, 71-40, to Portland State (8-9, 5-5 BSC) on Saturday afternoon.
THE GAME
The Vikings jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but a pair of buckets by
Gabe Quinnett and a free throw by
Scott Blakney narrowed the Vandals' deficit to one, 7-6, with 13:37 left in the first. Idaho was never more than five points behind in the first half, and PSU took a 28-24 lead into the break.
The visitors began the second half on a 16-2 run and outscored Idaho 43-16 in the period to earn the 71-40 victory.
THE NOTES
Damen Thacker led the Vandals with 13 points. Nine of his points came in the second half. He was 7-for-10 from the free throw line and he chipped in four boards in 21 minutes.
Michael Hanshaw has seen minutes in three games and has scored in all three appearances. He finished Saturday with two points, going 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He also had an offensive rebound.
The Vandals were outrebounded by the Vikings, 40-27. PSU had 14 offensive boards and held a 15-4 edge in second chance points.
Idaho shot 31.6 percent (12-for-38) from the floor, while PSU was 28-for-61 (45.9 percent).
The Vandals were 2-for-11 (18.2 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Vikings were 11-for-25 (44.0 percent).
The Vandals were 14-for-22 (63.6 percent) from the line. The Vikings were 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) from the free throw line.

Ja'Vary Christmas. Christmas finished the game with eight points, four rebounds, and a steal.

The Vandals host Montana State for the final two home games of the 2020-21 season. The Vandals welcome the Bobcats on Friday, February 26 at 4 p.m. Senior Day will be on Sunday, February 28, with tipoff scheduled for noon.
