FULL RESULTS
RIVERDALE, Utah – The Vandal cross country teams ran at the 2021 Big Sky Men's and Women's Winter Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Malaina Thacker finished ninth as the women took fifth, while the men placed seventh.
"I'm proud of the team, they competed hard. The conditions weren't ideal with the weather, but they ran fantastic. They took the opportunity and gave it all they had," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Tim Cawley. Â "The conference did a good job of putting on the meet with everything going on and the times we're in. I think the kids took the opportunity and gave it everything they had. I'm proud of them."
Thacker was the top finisher for the women. She finished ninth in 17:35.2.
Nell Baker placed 21st in a time of 18:24.5, while
Faith Dilmore was 28th in 18:34.7.
Maya Kobylanski finished 36th (18:53.1), and
Nathalia Campos (19:08.2) and
Leah Holmgren (19:19.0) were 43rd and 44th, respectively. Jolene Whitley placed 61st (19:53.1) to round out the point scorers for the Vandals.
Overall, the Vandal women placed fifth with 130 points. Northern Arizona were the team champions with 27 points, while Weber State (73) and Montana State (90), rounded out the top three. Lumberjack Taryn O'Neill was the individual champion, winning the 5k in 16:59.9.
On the men's side,
Gabriel Dinnel placed 33rd in 25:43.0 to lead Idaho.
Tim Stevens finished in 25:53.6 to take 37th, while
Shea Mattson was 41st (26:03.5).
Michael McCausland (26:27.9) and
Sam Fulbright (26:29.3) were 51st and 52nd, respectively.
Ben Shaw placed 60th (27:07.3) and
Timo Dohm finished 65th (27:30.3).
The Vandal men placed seventh with 209 points. Southern Utah (35), Northern Arizona (38), and Weber State (67) were the top three teams. Abdihamid Nur from NAU was the top individual in 23:55.6.
Next up for the Vandals is the outdoor track and field season.
