MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals (0-1) fell, 3-0, to Oregon State (1-0) to open the 2020-21 season on Friday afternoon. The game was the first in 467 days for Idaho.
Oregon State got a shot off in the first minute of the match, but the first quarter hour was end-to-end. In the 19th minute, Brianna McReynolds had the ball in the Vandal box and dropped a pass back to Laura Galceran who scored to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. In the 29th minute, Sydney Studer doubled the advantage, scoring off a corner kick.
A free kick goal by McReynolds put the visitors up, 3-0, in the 58th minute. The Vandals put the pressure on in the final 15 minutes, searching for a goal.
Savannah Foster just missed on a free kick, while
Myah Merino had two chances which she missed just wide right. In the final minute,
Jadyn Hanks forced a save out of the Beaver goalkeeper.
OSU outshot Idaho, 11-5, with each team tallying four shots in the second half. Merino led the Vandals with three shots. Junior goalkeeper
Avrie Fox took the loss.
Eight freshmen saw their first action in a Vandal uniform.

NEXT UP: The Vandals will play their second and final nonconference match at Washington State on February 19. The game is scheduled to tipoff in Pullman at 7 p.m.
