CHENEY, Wash. – The Idaho (0-15, 0-12 BSC) men's basketball team fell to Eastern Washington (8-6, 7-2 BSC) on Saturday afternoon in Cheney.
THE GAME
Both teams started off cold, with the first bucket getting scored over two minutes into the game. A three-pointer by
Gabe Quinnett with 13:48 remaining in the first gave the Vandals a five-point lead, 10-5. With three minutes to play,
Damen Thacker knocked down a jumper to put Idaho up, 24-23. However, the Eagles would close the half on a 11-4 run, taking a six-point lead, 34-28, into the break.
The Vandals drew within two points, 44-42, with 15 minutes to play, but an 11-0 Eagle run put the home team up double digits. Idaho chipped away and got within five with just over nine minutes remaining, but a 10-0 EWU run increased the cushion again. The Vandals were unable to make another push and ultimately fell, 90-64.
THE NOTES
Ja'Vary Christmas led the Vandals with 13 points.
Gabe Quinnett (11 points) and
Hunter-Jack Madden both reached double figures as well. Quinnett has now scored in double figures in three straight games. Madden was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Vandals were outrebounded, 40-30.
Babacar Thiombane had six rebounds to lead Idaho, which tied his season high.
Ethan Kilgore had five boards, which is a new career high.
Idaho shot 37.7 percent (23-for-61) from the floor, while EWU was 30-for-62 (48.4 percent).
The Vandals were 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Eagles were 10-for-28 (35.7 percent).
The Vandals were 15-for-20 (75.0 percent) from the line. The Eagles were 20-for-24 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line.
Damen Thacker was 3-for-4 from the free throw line. He snapped a streak of 32 straight free throws but is still shooting 92.3 percent this year.
THE NAME
Ja'Vary Christmas. Christmas tied his season-high with 13 points, leading the team in scoring. The senior had two offensive rebounds and chipped in two assists.

The Vandals stay on the road to play two games at Idaho State. The first game of the Battle of the Domes series will be Thursday, February 11, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. pacific time.
