MOSCOW, Idaho – Senior punter
Cade Coffey has been named the Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week after his incredible performance in Idaho's 28-21 win over No. 12 Eastern Washington on Saturday.
Coffey was critical in the win. He punted seven times on the day, averaging 50.6 yards per punt to help flip the field and set the defense up for success. His play of the game came late in the fourth quarter, the game tied at 21. With the Vandals on their own 21-yard line, Coffey sent his longest punt of the day, a 61-yarder, to the EWU 18. The Idaho defense took over from there, holding EWU to just one yard on three plays to get the ball back for what would be the game-winning drive.
This was not a fluke for Coffey. In his career, he now has four games of at least six punts with an average over 50 yards.
Coffey was also named the ROOT Sports Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week yesterday. Teammate
Tre Walker took home ROOT Sports Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week honors, and was later named the College Sports Madness National Defensive Player of the Week.
Earlier in the day, the Vandals moved up the national rankings and are currently No. 19 in the latest STATS Perform FCS Poll.
