MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho football has moved up the polls in week two and currently sits at No. 19 in the Stats Perform FCS National Poll after a thrilling win over No. 12 Eastern Washington on Saturday.
The Vandals took down the Eagles of EWU, 28-21, to open the spring season on Saturday. EWU got up on two occasions, but Idaho was able to battle back both times and ultimately take the win on a last-minute touchdown by
Hayden Hatten. The Vandals have now defeated the nationally ranked Eagles in back-to-back seasons.
Several student-athletes stood out in week one.
Tre Walker earned ROOT Sports Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week after tying teammate
Christian Elliss for the conference lead with 15 tackles. He also recorded a sack and forced a fumble. Walker also stepped up on the offensive side of the ball and tied for the team lead with 27 yards rushing, on just five carries.
Cade Coffey also earned ROOT Sports Big Sky honors, as the Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged 50.6 yards per punt on seven punts and also went 4-for-4 on point after attempts.
Next up for the Vandals is a showdown with UC Davis in Moscow on March 6. The Aggies have yet to play this season. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting GoVandals.com/Tickets or by calling the Vandal Ticket Office at (208) 885-6466.
It is the first time that the Vandals have been ranked since rejoining the FCS ranks in 2018. The No. 19 ranking is the highest by an Idaho team since being ranked No. 17 in the final poll of the 1995 season, Idaho's last season at the FCS level prior to moving to the Big West.
