MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track and Field program is thrilled to announce the commitment of John Peckham of Sisters High School in Central Oregon.

John is an exceptionally talented distance runner and State Champion in cross country in Oregon. John won the Oregon 4A State Cross Country title his junior year in 2019. Oregon is just now starting to race a cross country season in his senior year. John did race twice in the fall of 2020, however, for his club team and recorded a win and personal best over 5000m on a cross country course when he ran 15:32 at the Big Foot Invite in Tillamook, Ore. He also qualified for the state cross country championships as a sophomore and freshman, placing 15th as a sophomore.

John, like millions of other student-athletes across the country, lost his junior track season to covid-19. During his sophomore year he qualified for state in the 3000m and placed fifth at the Oregon State Track and Field Championships with a personal best of 9:03.67. John has not yet had the opportunity to express his new fitness and elevation of his running during a track season yet since his breakout cross country season his junior year.

"We are excited to have John join our Vandal family. He is a talented runner as well as a great student who can help contribute to the team on the track as well as in the classroom," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
