Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vandals Win on Senior Day

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho women's soccer team (4-4-0, 4-2-0 BSC) extended its winning streak to four games with a 2-0 defeat of Sacramento State (1-2-4, 0-2-2 BSC) on Sunday afternoon. Margo Schoesler and Sidney Schmidt scored for the Vandals. Hadley Sbrega was honored following the match for Senior Day.

In a physical matchup, the game started out with the two teams feeling each other out. The Vandals were able to get two shots off in the first 25 minutes. Jadyn Hanks found Margo Schoesler in space in the 27th minute. The freshman took one touch and from well outside the box, laced the ball into the back of the net, leaving the Hornet goalkeeper no chance of stopping the goal. Each team finished the half with four shots, but the Vandals took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Idaho kept the momentum in the second half, holding a lot of the possession and outshooting the Hornets, 9-5, including a 5-2 shot on goal advantage. In the 77th minute, Schmidt had the ball by the right corner flag. She drove the ball on goal, just bending it into the far corner to put the Vandals up, 2-0, and icing the game for the home side.

Idaho led Sacramento State, 13-9, in shots, with the Vandals tallying eight shots on goal compared to the two from the Hornets. Kaysie Bruce had a team high three shots. Schoesler's goal was assisted by Hanks, while Bruce was credited with the assist on Schmidt's score. Avrie Fox (4-4-0) earned the win in goal for the Vandals. She made two saves in a scoreless 90 minutes to earn the shutout. Aaliyah Fesili (1-2-4) took the loss for the Hornets. She made six saves while allowing two goals in 90 minutes.
