Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho volleyball team fell, 3-2, to Montana State on Monday night. The Bobcats took the first set, 25-22, before winning the second and third sets each 25-22, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The visitors took set four 25-22 and clinched the win, 15-13 in the fifth set.
Bea Whitling led the Vandals with a career-high 14 kills, hitting .407 in the match with just three errors She also had four total blocks and a team-high three service aces.
Kennedy Warren was just behind Whitling with 13 kills herself. She also had 15 digs and three block assists.
Allison Munday and
Travel Morris each added 11 kills. Morris also had a team-high five total blocks.
Peyten Ely had 37 assists and seven digs. Donnee Janzen added 24 assists.
Alaina Lacey led the Vandals with 19 digs.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair before the Vandals took an 11-8 lead following a
Bea Whitling Kill. Montana State quickly erased the deficit and took an 18-14 lead. The Bobcats took the first set 25-22.
Both sides battled to begin the second set, much like the first. Tied 16-16, Idaho took a 19-16 advantage following two consecutive kills from Whitling and a kill from Housley. Montana State cut into the lead, tying the set 21-21.
Allison Munday responded for the Vandals, giving the home side a22-21 lead. Whitling added a service ace, putting the Vandals up two. Kennedy warren notched a kill, sealing the match win, 25-22.
Bea Whitling notched her first kill of the third set in the early goings, giving Idaho a 5-3 advantage. Whitling added another kill, putting the Vandals up five, 10-5. The Bobcats crawled out of the early hole to lead 20-17 late in the set. A 5-0 Vandal run, capped with a
Travel Morris kill, tied the set 21-21. A kill from Donnee Janzen and a Montana State attack error secured the 25-22 set win for Idaho.
In the third, the Bobcats held a 12-9 lead, but the Vandals fought back to take a 14-13 lead, and the two teams battled to take control. With the score tied, 21-21, MSU would score four of the final five points, earning the 3-0 victory.
Down 2-1 overall, the Bobcats controlled the fourth set early, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Idaho fought back down the stretch of the set, tying the Bobcats at 21 following a service ace from
Peyten Ely. Montana State outscored Idaho 4-1 down the stretch, winning 25-22 to force a fifth set.
Idaho jumped out to an 11-9 lead before losing control of the set. Montana State outscored Idaho 6-2 the rest of the way, winning 15-3 in the set and 3-2 overall.
Idaho hit .226 in the match, just below Montana State's .294.
Montana State edged the Vandals in aces, 9-8.
