MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho women's soccer team is set for the Big Sky Championships. The Vandals will take on Northern Arizona on Thursday in the semifinals. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. pacific time.

SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS (6-2-1, 5-1-1 BSC): NAU won the Southeast Division of the Big Sky Conference. Most recently they went 0-1-1 with Northern Colorado. The Jacks tied the first game, 2-2, before falling, 3-1, to wrap up the regular season. The team scores 1.78 goals per game while allowing 1.22 GAA. Madison Montgomery leads NAU and the Big Sky with eight goals. Paige Maling has two assists to lead the squad. Taryn Benham has played every minute in goal, making 29 saves with a 1.32 GAA.
SCOUTING THE VANDALS (5-5-0, 5-3-0 BSC): Idaho most recently split with Eastern Washington to wrap up the regular season. The team earned the No. 2 seed in the Northwest Division. The Vandals score 1.60 goals per game while allowing 1.10.
Kaysie Bruce and
Myah Merino each have four goals to lead the way, while
Hannah Alfaro and
Alyssa Peters both have two assists. Goalkeeper
Avrie Fox has a 1.11 GAA, making 27 saves in 895 minutes played.
SERIES HISTORY: Idaho is 2-2-3 all-time against NAU. The Jacks won, 2-1, last year, with
Taylor Brust scoring for the Vandals.
LAST TIME OUT
Idaho split the season series with Eastern Washington to wrap up the regular season. The Vandals won, 2-0, on Friday, with
Maddy Lasher and
Myah Merino scoring. The Eagles came back to win, 2-0, on Sunday.
CONFERENCE AWARDS
Four Vandals earned All-Conference accolades which were announced on Tuesday.
Myah Merino was named the Co-Offensive MVP and earned a spot on the First Team alongside
Kaysie Bruce.
Taylor Brust garnered Second Team honors and
Margo Schoesler earned Honorable Mention.
Head coach
Jeremy Clevenger was named the conference Coach of the Year on Wednesday.
WAITING TO SEE
With the Vandals' bye week coming in the final week of the season, the team had to wait to see if they would make the Big Sky Tournament. With Eastern Washington falling to Montana on Sunday, Idaho clinched the No. 2 seed in the Northwest Division.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Avrie Fox was named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week on March 29. She had two wins in goal against Sacramento State. She made eight saves and the only goal she allowed was a penalty.
Kaysie Bruce was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week on March 22. She scored four goals over the weekend, including a hat trick on Sunday. She had the game winner in both games. She leads the conference with four goals. Bruce recorded the first hat trick for a Vandal player since Bridget Daley scored three in a 4-0 win over the Vikings in 2018 (Sept. 21).
GOALS ON GOALS
The Vandals 16 goals scored this season are tied for third most in the conference.
The team had a streak in which they scored at least two goals in five straight games. The last time Idaho scored multiple goals in five consecutive games was 2017.
Idaho scored five goals against Portland State in back-to-back games. The last time the Vandals scored at least five goals in consecutive games was in 2017 when they defeated Memphis, 5-4, and then Nevada, 6-0.
Bruce and Merino are tied for fourth in the conference in goals scored, with four each.
MOVING ON UP
Myah Merino's four goals this year puts her at 14 career goals. She now sits in seventh place on the Vandals' all-time scoring list.
