Vandals Fall at Bengals in ICCU Battle of the Domes

STATS

POCATELLO, Idaho
– A 14-0 start by the Bengals proved to be too much to overcome as No. 24 Idaho (2-2, 2-2) fell at Idaho State (2-3, 2-3), 24-22, on Saturday in the annual ICCU Battle of the Domes.

ISU scored on its first two possessions to get up 14-0 early in the first quarter. The Vandal defense locked in from there, keeping the Bengals off the scoreboard for the next two quarters. Tre Walker led the way for Idaho with 13 tackles, while Christian Elliss added 11. Jonah Kim was tremendous on the line, picking up two sacks and three total tackles for loss.

The Vandals got back into things with a pair of Cade Coffey field goals in the second quarter to make it 14-6 at the break. Idaho came out hot in the third. Nikhil Nayar found his way into the end zone but the ensuing two-point conversion was unsuccessful. Idaho did take a 15-14 lead with four minutes to play in the third, but ISU battled back to start the fourth.

The Bengals took the lead they would not relinquish on a field goal to start the fourth. After a Christian Frederickson touchdown made it 24-15, Bengals.

Idaho made a push late, with Nayar finding Hayden Hatten with just under three minutes to play. The Vandals got the ball back once more, less than a minute later, but the Bengal defense held strong to seal the win.

Idaho next heads up to Cheney to take on Eastern Washington on Saturday, April 10.
