H.I.R. Invite Results | Sac State Open Results
SPOKANE, Wash. – The University of Idaho outdoor track and field teams competed at two meets this weekend as they continued their season. Part of the squad competed in Spokane at the Whitworth H.I.R. Invitational, while others were in Sacramento for the Sacramento State Open.
"I thought it was a fantastic weekend across the board. With what we saw yesterday at Whitworth, I thought the student-athletes did great there. Today, it couldn't have gone a whole lot better. Everyone is progressing in the right direction. We saw some great performances moving up on the national and conference lists," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Tim Cawley. "I just thought everyone went out and competed hard which is good to see. The coaching staff – Travis, Brett, Cathleen - has done a great job. They've set these athletes up so they're competing great. The team is really coming together well and I'm happy to be a part of it here. We're going to keep moving forward and go from there."
A group of Vandals competed at the H.I.R. Invitational hosted by Whitworth on Friday. In the women's 1500,
Celie Mans finished fifth (4:55.24), while
Erica Pecha was eighth. In the 800,
Elise Abbott placed fourth in 2:20.74.
In the triple jump,
Kalani Hardyway won with a leap of 35'8.75" (10.89m) and was second in the long jump with a mark of 16'10.75" (5.15m).
Erika Larsen took seventh in the discus and sixth in the shot put, while
Hannah Ringel was fifth in the hammer throw while winning the shot put (51'1"/15.57m). Her shot put heave puts her first on the Big Sky performance list this season.
On the men's side in Spokane,
Cullen Williams won the hammer throw with a mark of 188'11"/57.59m and was seventh in the discus. His distance in the hammer moved him into the top-50 nationally and he now sits sixth in the Big Sky.
Vandals won 20 events at the Sacramento State Open.
Nell Baker (9:58.94) and
Jolene Whiteley (10:04.59) were first and second, respectively, in the women's 3k.
Anna Pecha finished second in the 800m in 2:15.00, while
Leah Holmgren was third (2:15.82) and
Faith Dilmore was fifth (2:16.85).
Malaina Thacker won the 3k steeplechase in 10:15.43, while Maya Kobyanski (10:58.95) and Whiteley (11:36.84) rounded out the top three finishers. Thacker's time is the 15th best this year in Division I and first in the Big Sky.
In the women's 4x100m relay, the Idaho team made up of Tayler Lyday,
Camryn Crouch,
Olivia Martin, and
Airiana Dargan finished second (47.08). Meanwhile the 4x400m relay team consisting of Crouch, Martin,
Anna Pecha, and Franziska Stoehr was also second (3:56.85). Crouch also won the 200m in 24.73 and was second in the 400 (56.29). Her 400 time is the fourth best in the conference this year. Martin was fourth in both races. Vandals took the top two spots in the 400m hurdles. Franziska Stoehr won the race in 1:04.99, while
Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi was just behind in second in 1:05.22.
Dargan won the long jump with a mark of 17'10.75"/5.45m. LyDay finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 40'0.75"/12.21m, which is the second best recorded in the Big Sky this year, and
Ellie Grant was fourth in the event.
Julia Hayes took first in the high jump with a mark of 5'4.25" (1.63m).
Keeley Rasmussen was third in the discus (134'8"/41.05m), while
Victoria Rae was fifth. Rae was also fourth in the shot put (40'6.25"/12.35m).
On the men's side in Sacramento, Vandals took the top three spots in the 3k to set the tone for the day.
Tim Stevens won the event in a time of 8:26.12, while
Dwain Stucker (8:28.43) and
Michael McCausland (8:40.86) were second and third, respectively. Stevens (3:57.47) and Stucker (3:58.26) also finished first and second in the 1500m. In the 800m,
Shea Mattson (1:51.97) and
Caleb Seely (1:52.62) finished one-two.
Ben Doucette won the 110m hurdles in a time of 14.38, while
Jurrian Hering was just behind to take second in 14.58. In the 400m hurdles,
Deyondre Davis took first in a time of 52.85, which moves him into second place in the conference this year, while
Alex Ayers (53.19) was second and
Cole Alteneder (55.20) was third.
Spencer Barrera finished first in the 400m in a Big Sky leading 47.19, while
Caleb Hagan won the 100m, moving into first place in the Big Sky and 45th nationally with his time of 10.43. Hagan also won the 200m in 21.55, while Hering was third in the event (22.31). The Vandals' 4x400m relay team made up of Ayers, Davis, Barrera, and
Lorenz Herrmann was second (3:17.77).
In field events,
Grady Leonard won the discus (162'11"/49.67m) and the shot put (55'3.50"/16.85m). Leonard now is fifth in both events on the Big Sky performance list. In the long jump,
Zachary Nunis took first with a mark of 24'7.00" (7.49m) which puts him second in the Big Sky and 33rd nationally, and
Britt Ipsen was second (23'5.25"/7.14m). Nunis also won the triple jump with a leap of 49'1.75"/14.98m which moves him into fourth in the BSC.
Joseph Ruddell handily won the high jump with a mark of 6'9.50"/2.07m which moves him into third on the Big Sky performance list.
