MOSCOW, Idaho – Nine Vandals are set to compete at the NCAA Preliminary West Round this week looking to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. The meet will begin Wednesday, May 26, in College Station, Texas, and conclude on Saturday, May 29.

Action will get going with the men's hammer throw on Wednesday morning. Grady Leonard and Cullen Williams will participate in the event which begins at 11:30 a.m. pacific time. Williams will be in the first flight with a season's best heave of 62.79m, while
Leonard will throw in the second flight after putting up a season's best mark of 62.92m. The pair enters the competition fresh off podium finishes at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships. Leonard won the silver while Williams took third.

The men's long jump competition will begin at 1 p.m. pacific time on Wednesday. Zachary Nunis enters the competition with a career-best 7.71m mark which earned him the silver medal at the Big Sky Championships.

Zack Short will be competing in the men's shot put on Wednesday afternoon. The first flight is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. pacific time and the senior is in the third flight with a season's best mark of 19.51m. Short recently took first in the event at the Big Sky Championships.

Also competing on Wednesday will be Ben Doucette in the 110m hurdle preliminaries, Tim Stevens in the 1500m preliminaries, and Deyondre Davis in the 400m hurdles preliminaries. The finals for those events will be on Friday.

Nunis will have another opportunity to compete on Friday in the triple jump. After taking third at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, Nunis will be in the first flight at the Preliminary West Round meet, which is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. pacific time.

The two Vandal women will compete on Saturday. Tayler LyDay, who was recently named Big Sky Co-Freshman of the Year, will participate in the triple jump beginning at 1:15 p.m. pacific time. Following a silver medal at the conference championship meet,
Malaina Thacker will run in the 3k steeplechase at 4:10 p.m. pacific time to wrap up the meet.

Those that qualify will move on to compete at the NCAA Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
