Vandals Sign Smith

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball has announced the signing of Rashad Smith, a transfer from Grand Canyon University.

"We are all very happy to have Rashad join our program. He is going to bring with him a great skill set and versatility at both ends that is going to make our team better," said head coach Zac Claus. "We believe in him as a player and know that he will have an impact with his ability to create for himself and others, to knock down shots, and rebound the ball. This makes another positive day for Idaho basketball."

Smith played 11 games for the Lopes in 2020-21, scoring in double figures twice. The team finished the season 17-7, winning the WAC tournament before falling to No. 2-seeded Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to GCU, Smith played two seasons at Pima Community College. He averaged 18.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 5.7 apg, 1.7 spg, and 1.3 bpg during his sophomore season in 2019-20. He dished out 171 assists during that season, which ranked 14th in the NJCAA Division II ranks. During his freshman season, Smith averaged 13.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 5.0 apg for the Aztecs, helping the team go 29-7 en route to a NJCAA Region I Championship.

Originally from Chandler, Arizona, Smith played his prep career at Hamilton HS. He averaged 11.4 ppg over three years, including 15.2 points per game as a junior.

Smith is the son of Rachel Wilkins.
