Game at NDSU Rescheduled for Thursday, Vandals Set for Opening Games

MOSCOW, Idaho –
The Idaho women's soccer team is set to open the 2021 season with a pair of games in North Dakota. The Vandals will play North Dakota State University on Thursday, August 19, with kick off set for 6 p.m. pacific time. The team will then play at University of North Dakota on Sunday, August 22, at 10 a.m. pacific time. The game with NDSU was originally scheduled for Friday, but due to forecasted weather, was adjusted to Thursday.

SCOUTING THE BISON: NDSU returns 174 of the 176 starts from last spring. Last season's leading scorer, Olivia Lovick, is back for the team. The Bison were 7-8-1 last season. The team played two exhibition matches last week against Minnesota and Nebraska. They were recently selected to finish fifth in the Summit League with Lovick and Ellie Schneider tabbed as Players to watch.

SERIES HISTORY: Idaho is 3-1-0 with NDSU. The last time the two teams played was 2013, when the Bison won, 3-2, in Fargo.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING HAWKS: UND was selected to finish seventh in the Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll, it was recently announced. The team returns 17 letterwinners from last spring's team, including leading scorers Cassie Giddings and Hannah Olson, who each scored two goals last season.

SERIES HISTORY: Idaho is 4-1-0 all-time against North Dakota. The teams last met in 2019, when the Vandals beat the Fighting Hawks, 2-1, in Moscow.

SCOUTING THE VANDALS: Idaho returns 22 letterwinners, including eight starters, from the Spring 2021 season. After being picked to finish seventh, the Vandals were 5-3 in Big Sky play, earning a spot in the conference tournament after clinching the No. 2 spot in the Northwest Division. 

EXHIBITION: The Vandals played two preseason games in preparation for the 2021 season. Idaho traveled to Seattle University to play the Redhawks before hosting an exhibition Battle of the Palouse with Washington State traveling to the Kibbie Dome.

PRESEASON PREDICTIONS: The Vandals were selected to finish fourth by the Big Sky coaches.

NEW YEAR: Idaho welcomes 10 newcomers to the squad this fall. Nine freshmen join the team while one transfer is now a Vandal.

SAME LOOK: Twenty-two letterwinners return to the Vandal squad this year. Returning to anchor the back line is graduate student Taylor Brust, who was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team last season. Also returning is Margo Schoesler who earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention accolades last season after scoring two goals as a freshman.

NEXT UP: Following the Vandals North Dakota swing, Idaho will next remain on the road and play Oregon State in Corvallis on August 27.
