MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho volleyball opened the 2021 season with a tough loss to Portland on Friday night in three sets. The Vandals will look to bounce back on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Nevada.
 
Allison Munday led the Vandals with 11 kills while hitting .360. She also tied for the team lead with two aces. Peyton Ely picked up 27 assists on the night.
 
Idaho got out to a quick lead behind an electrified crowd in Memorial Gym. Portland battled back and kept things close before tying things up at 14. The Vandals went on a 4-0 run from there, but the Pilots responded to take over at 22-21 and ultimately win the set, 25-22. Rachel Davis le the Vandals with six kills on eight attempts in the first set.
 
Portland was strong throughout the second set and cruised for the 25-13 win. The Pilots built an early lead in the third set as well, but the Vandals were able to keep things close throughout. UP would ultimately stay up throughout and take the set, 25-20.
 
Next up for the Vandals is a tilt with Nevada on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. before facing Grand Canyon at 6 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
