COLFAX, Wash. – The Idaho cross country men finished second and the women third at the Cougar Classic hosted by Washington State at the Colfax Golf Club.
On the men's side, Gonzaga finished with the top seven spots to earn the win, but the Vandals finished in front of Washington State and Eastern Washington.
Tim Stevens and Shea Mattson led the Vandal men. Stevens crossed the line on the 8K course with a time of 24:49.5 edging out Mattson by 7/10s of a second for the No. 11 spot. Michael McCausland was 13th with a time of 24.57.
Ben Shaw finished 16th with a time of 25:11.7 and Lorenz Herrmann finished 17th with a time of 25:18.4 to round out the scoring for Idaho.
On the women's side, Gonzaga grabbed the top spot and Washington State finished in second ahead of the Vandals.
Nell Baker led Idaho on the women's side. She finished the 6K course with a time of 21:15.5. Maya Kobylanski was 11th with a time of 21:32.5. Kelsey Swenson was 13th with a time of 21:40.1. Leah Holmgren was 17th with a time of 21:57.2. Jolene Whitely finished 18th with a time of 22:10.4.
Idaho cross country next competes at the Bill Dellinger Invite in Eugene, Ore., on Sept. 23.
