SPOKANE, Wash. – The Vandal track and field team started 2022 with a strong showing at the Cougar Classic Invitational.
The Vandals took home three first-place finishes including setting a facility record in the men's 4x400m relay Saturday at The Podium.
Lorenz Herrmann won the 800meters in a time of 1:52.25 and
Kelsey Swenson won the 3000meters with a fast time of 9:56.49.
"I thought the meet went well and the team competed well coming off of the break," director of track & field/cross country
Tim Cawley said."We had a lot of really good performances and excited to build on it next week at home."
The 4x400 meter relay team
Deyondre Davis,
Lorenz Herrmann,
Spencer Barrera and
Alex Ayers set the facility record with a blazing time of 3:18.63.
In the sprints,
Mika Brouwer took third in the 200meters with a time on 1:52.25,
Alex Ayers finished fourth in the 400meters with a time of 49.25.
Anna Pecha took fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.01.
Jurrian Hering (8.12) and
Deyondre Davis (8.14) took fourth and fifth in the 60 meters hurdles.
Nell Baker placed fourth in the mile with a time of 5:02.61
Tim Stevens took third in the 3000meters with a time of 8:36.01.
In the jumps,
Joseph Ruddell placed second in the high jump with a mark of 2.10 meters.
Zachary Nunis placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.57 meters and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.92 meters.
Hannah Ringel lead the way in the throws with a second place finish in the shot put (14.86).
Cullen Williams placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 19.70 meters.
Noah Culbertson finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 16.49.
The Vandals will be back in action next weekend when they host the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open on Jan. 22. The meet is set to start at 10 a.m. inside the Kibbe Dome
