Lose Named Defensive Line Coach

MOSCOW, Idaho – Head Football Coach Jason Eck has announced the hire of David Lose as Defensive Line Coach.

"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Vandal Football Family and Coach Jason Eck's staff. Let's go Idaho," Lose said.

Lose (pronounced LOW-say) comes to Idaho from Oregon State where he spent four seasons as a Defensive Quality Control Analyst where he worked for Head Coach Jonathan Smith, a former Vandal assistant coach.

"We want to build the program from the line of scrimmage first so getting Coach Lose at the defensive line was a very critical hire," Eck said. "We are excited for him as a coach and for his background recruiting the West Coast and experience in the Pacific Northwest. He comes highly recommended by Coach Jonathan Smith who I trust immensely. There are a lot of positives about coach David. I think he is smart and thoughtful. He is going to do a great job building relationships with our players both as people and as players. We are excited to get him and his wife here."

Lose spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as the defensive line coach at Portland State. In 2018 Kenton Bartlett earned All-Big Sky honors.

Before Portland State, he coached six seasons as a Defensive Assistant at Washington State. He coached for two seasons at Saint Paul's College as the defensive line coach in 2009 and 2010 and coached at his Alma Mater Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento from 2006-08.

He played at Oregon State in the early 2000s, starting in 18 games. He was part of OSU's co-Pac-12 title Fiesta Bowl championship team and was a key blocker for Beaver running back greats Ken Simonton and Steven Jackson, and record-setting and NFL veteran quarterback Derek Anderson. Lose, who spent five seasons in Arena Football League-2.

Lose will be joined in Moscow by his wife Makalapua.
