Vandals Rout Vikings to Move Back into First

MOSCOW, Idaho – The game was between the two teams at the top of the Big Sky standings, but it turned into a rout as Idaho soccer scored three goals, matching Idaho's season-high, as the Vandals topped Portland State 3-1 Friday at the Kibbie Dome.

The Vandals got on the board with a header goal by Jayd Sprague in the 23rd minute. Alyssa Peters hit a beautiful corner kick across the goalkeeper's where Sprague outjumped her defender and put the ball over the goalkeeper's hands.

The one-goal lead held until the half, but the Vandals got to work early in the second.

In the 55th minute, Margo Schoesler made an incredible run, beating a defender before she sent the ball past the goalkeeper, hitting the left post, the right post and then in.

The Vandals padded the lead in the 63rd minute when Savannah Foster found Maddy Lasher streaking down the right side of the field. The PSU keeper came out to challenge, but Lasher rocketed the ball into the back of the net for the goal.

Portland State broke up the shutout in the 75th minute, but it wouldn't be enough as the Vandals cruised the win.

Idaho jumps back to the top of the Big Sky table with 15 points. The Vandals are back in action Sunday against Sacramento State.
