MOSCOW, Idaho – Savannah Foster and
Jadyn Hanks scored goals and
Alyssa Peters tallied a pair of assists to lift Idaho to a 2-1 win over Eastern Washington Sunday afternoon in the Kibbie Dome.
The Vandals got going early when Peters placed a corner kick in perfect position for
Savannah Foster for the header goal in just the fourth minute of the game. The ball went just over the hands of the Eagle goalkeeper to put Idaho up 1-0.
EWU answered in quick fashion, scoring in the eighth minute on goal by Elisabeth Cole.
Idaho stacked up seven first half corner kicks and 11 shots but couldn't get the ball across the line again in the first half.
That would change in the 55th minute. Hanks sent in a rocket that ricocheted off the far post and found
Margo Schoesler who passed the ball to Peters. Peters again sent a perfect cross to Hanks who headed the ball in for the goal and the 2-1 lead.
Idaho again racked up the shots in the second half, notching 14, and again had seven corner kicks. The Vandals closed the game with a 25-9 shot advantage and racked up 14 corner kicks to just three for EWU.
The Vandals close the regular season with a 11-3-2 record and a 6-2 Big Sky mark. The win secured the second seed in the Big Sky Championship and gives the Vandals a first-round bye. They will play the winner of Portland State and Montana in the semifinal at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4 in Greeley.
Idaho won games against both the Vikings and Grizzlies during the regular season.
