FARMINGTON, Utah – For the first time in her career, junior middle blocker
Travel Morris was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday.
Morris, a Spring, Texas native, totaled 14 blocks in seven sets against Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona last week. In a four-set win over NAU (10/22), Morris put up a career-high 11 blocks to lead the Vandals. She opened the week with three blocks, including one solo at Northern Colorado (10/20).
Her performance against Northern Arizona marked the most blocks by a conference player in a Big Sky match this season. Morris now sits tied for sixth all-time in Idaho history for most block assists in a single match and becomes the first Idaho player to record 11 blocks since
Nikki Ball posted 11 at Montana (11/06/21).
The third-year Vandal currently leads the Big Sky with 1.28 blocks per set in Big Sky play. She has totaled a team-high 63 blocks this season and leads the team with an average of one block per set.
This is the first weekly award of Morris's career at Idaho and the third player of the week honor by an Idaho student-athlete this season.
Idaho looks to carry its momentum into a pair of home matches this week, when the Vandals welcome Montana State and Montana to Memorial Gym on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
