Idaho Women's Basketball Signs Two

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's basketball head coach Jon Newlee today announced the signing of two guards to national letters of intent. Idaho Falls native Aspen Caldwell and Phoenix area standout Madelynn Muniz bring strong basketball and academic credentials to the team.

Aspen Caldwell • 5-7 • PG • Thunder Ridge HS • Idaho Falls, Idaho.
"Aspen is a tough, physical guard from Thunder Ridge HS in Idaho Falls," Newlee said. "She is an excellent three-point shooter, has a good mid-range game, and can also take the ball hard to the hoop and finish through contact. She is a tough defender, and a great rebounder from the guard spot."

Caldwell was the High Country Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team player. She was also named to the Post Register All-Area team. In just her junior year, she reached 1,000-point club.

During the state tournament, she shot 45% from the field, averaged 21.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals to earn 5A All-Tournament team honors.

Off the court, she carries a 4.0 GPA and has been an honor roll student for all four years.

"Being able to land the top guard in Idaho is fantastic for our program," Newlee said. "Aspen is a great student and an awesome fit for us. I can't wait to have her join our Vandal Family."

Madelynn Muniz • 5-10 • Guard • Boulder Creek HS • Phoenix, Arizona
"Madelynn is a knockdown three-point shooter with deep range," Newlee said. "She has a high basketball IQ and does a great job of seeing the floor and makes great decisions with the ball. A tough defender capable of guarding all the spots on the perimeter."

She is a team captain for the Jaguars where she earned All-District and Second-Team All-Region honors as a junior. She was her team's Offensive and Defensive MVP. She was second in her conference in three-pointers made and fourth in for total points scored.

She played for the Jason Kidd Select Girls Basketball 17U Club team and won Grind Session World Championship honors.

Off the court, she is a member of the National Honor Society and a four-year Honor Roll Student.

"Maddie played on one of the top club teams in the country, sponsored by Jason Kidd and will come to us with great experience at a high level of competition," Newlee Said. "She is an outstanding student and a perfect fit for our program both on and off the floor. We are very excited to welcome her to Moscow and our Vandal Family next year."

The Vandals continue non-conference play Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Cal.
