Vandal Scholarship Fund Announces Annual Award Winners

The goal of Vandal Boosters, Inc. through its membership program known as the Vandal Scholarship Fund is to fund all of the student-athlete scholarships awarded by the Department of Athletics at the University of Idaho. 
 
The National Vandal Scholarship Fund Board of Directors proudly announces the recipients of the 2022 Annual Awards. Awardees will be recognized in front of their peers during the Idaho Vandals vs. UC Davis Aggies football game on Saturday, November 12.
 
Vandal Scholarship Fund Executive Director Mahmood Sheikh shares "Our goal is to ensure our 300 plus student-athletes have tools and resources to achieve excellence today, tomorrow, for life. The individuals being recognized personify that goal. We are fortunate to have dedicated individuals and cannot thank them enough for the work they do in their respective communities on behalf of our beloved University."   
 
Elsbeth Bush Distinguished Service Award
Award recognizes individuals for their efforts and service to the Vandal Athletic program that is above the norm in fundraising. Hard work, true dedication and helping to achieve financial success for the Vandal Scholarship Fund is the byword for this individual. Elsbeth Bush was an integral part of the University of Idaho Athletic Department and this award is meant to commemorate and honor her and the traits that distinguished her as an unique individual. 

2022 recipients include –

2.    Kristi Brown – Moscow, ID 
3.    Martin Arnzen – Moscow, ID 
4.    Jessica Hastriter – Moscow, ID 
5.    Duane Van Patten – Boise, ID 
6.    Erin Russell Wieland – Seattle, WA 
7.    Lou Mallane – Meridian, ID 
 
Vandal Booster of the Year
Available to anyone except the current National Board of Directors president, the award is designed to recognize someone who has given superior service and effort to the Vandals. This person should have served with exemplary leadership in their local group as well as in the overall organization. This award belongs to that one person who has done far beyond the normal call of duty. 
 
2022 recipients include - 
 
1.    Andy Kaus – Moscow, ID
2.    Dick Rush – Boise, ID 
3.    Marg Chipman – Weiser, ID 
4.    Wally Hedrick – Eagle, ID 
5.    Flip Kleffner – Meridian, ID 
6.    West Treasure Valley Chapter – Fruitland/Payette/Weiser, ID 
7.    Randy Haddock – Hayden, ID 
 
Under 30 Club Booster of the Year Award 
This award is given to a Vandal under the age of 30 who has exhibited leadership, fundraising skills and an enthusiastic work ethic toward the success of Vandal Athletics.
 
2022 recipient is – 
 
8.    Trevor Kiser – Parma, ID 
 
Vandal Coach of the Year
This award is designed to not only recognize the coach who has done an excellent job in coaching his or her athletes, but who has also gone above and beyond in assisting the program through attending events and helping to cultivate donors. The emphasis on winning, coupled with scholastics and good sportsmanship will also be an important factor in the selection of this person.

9.    Daniel Hangstefer, Men's Tennis – Moscow, ID 
10.    Tim Cawley, Track & Field/Cross Country – Moscow, ID 
 
John Kirtland Vandal Spirit Award 
This award is nominated by coaches and staff members of the various athletic programs in the Vandal Athletic Department. It is awarded solely at their discretion and is given to a booster who exhibits his or her loyalty at athletic events. The award is designed for the ardent fan who supports all the athletic programs with dignity and good sportsmanship named after Vandal great, John Kirtland. The award is voted on by the National Board. 
 
2022 recipients are – 
 
11.    Marg Chipman – Weiser, ID 
12.    Margaret Henderson – Moscow, ID 
 
Special Service Award
This award is for that special someone who, in the opinion of the President of Vandal Boosters, Inc. has gone more than the extra mile for the Vandals. This award is at the discretion of the President. 
 
2022 recipient is – 
 
13.    Rick Sparks – Eagle, ID
