MOSCOW, Idaho – How much of a difference does a year make? How about 82-points.
Hayden Hatten tied an Idaho record with four receiving touchdowns and the Idaho Vandal football team topped Eastern Washington 48-16 Saturday, a year after falling to the Eagles 71-21 in Cheney.
The Vandals controlled both sides of the ball, holding the Eagles to just 278 yards on offense, including just 36 rushing on the day. Offensively, the Vandals racked up 531 yards of offense, including 308-yards rushing. It is the second time in three weeks that Idaho has rushed for over 300 yards.
Hatten grabbed 10 passes for 146 yards and four touchdowns all in the first half. Elisha Cummings ran for a career-high 128 yards, averaging 8.0 yards per carry.
Roshaun Johnson carried the ball nine times for 67 yards and two TDs.
Eastern Washington got on the board first with a field goal with 8:03 left in the first quarter. The Vandals responded with three unanswered touchdowns, all receptions by Hatten. He caught passes of 33, 17 and 18 yards to put Idaho up 21-3.
Eastern Washington answered with an 87-yard touchdown pass, but Idaho added a 19-yard touchdown pass from Hatten and a four-yard Johnson TD to take a 35-10 lead into the half.
Ricardo Chavez hit field goals of 31 and 30 yards early in the second half before Eastern Washington scored on a 75-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 41-16 with 9:59 to play. Johnson punched in his second td of the game with 7:07 left to cap the scoring.
Defensively, Idaho held EWU to just nine first downs and 36 yards rushing on 20 carries. EWU passed for 242 yards, 162 of which came on the two touchdown passes. EWU was 0-11 on third down and 1-3 on fourth.
Idaho is now 6-3 on the year and 5-1 in Big Sky play while Eastern Washington is 2-7 and 1-5 in conference action.

The Vandals host red hot UC Davis Saturday at 4 p.m. for senior day. The game will have FCS Playoff implications as both teams battle for inclusion into the field. The Aggies have won four straight games and like Idaho, Davis' only losses came against either Power Five or FCS Top-10 teams.

- Hayden Hatten hit the 100-yard receiving mark for the eighth time of his career and the fourth time in five games. He is now tied with Chris Lacy and Eric Yarber for third on the career list.
- Hayden Hatten scored four touchdowns in the first half to tie three Vandals for the single-game record for TD receptions.
- Hayden Hatten is tied for second on the single-season touchdown receiving list with 12.
- Hatten scored a touchdown in his fifth consecutive game. He has scored all 12 of his touchdowns this season in the last five games.
- Between the second half of the Sacramento State game and the first half of the EWU game, Hatten scored seven TDs.
- Elisha Cummings rushed for a career-high 128 yards.
- Roshaun Johnson scored two touchdowns. He now has eight rushing touchdowns for the year, the most of any Vandal rusher.
- The Vandals failed to win the turnover battle for the first time this season, but Idaho is still positive 10 for turnovers on the year.
- At 6-3, the Vandals have guaranteed themselves a winning record for the first time since 2016.
- With Weber State's loss to Sacramento State, Idaho is now alone in third place at 5-1 behind Big Sky co-leaders Sacramento State and Montana State who are undefeated at 6-0.
- Ricardo Chavez is now 14-17 on the year. He is now tied for ninth on the single-season field goals made with four others, the latest being Tino Amancio in 2007.
- The Eagles scored the fewest points in a game to an FCS opponent since losing to Weber State 14-6 in 2018 in Ogden.
- The Vandals held on to the ball for 41:38 minutes. It is the third time this year that the Vandals have surpassed 40 minutes in time of possession.
