Men’s Hoops Rolls Past Northern Illinois 84-47

Idaho earns largest Division l win since 2008

MOSCOW, Idaho – Four Vandals scored in double figures and Idaho men's basketball (3-5) held Northern Illinois (3-6) to 33 percent shooting from the field to cruise to a 84-47 win on Friday night at ICCU Arena.

Idaho's 37-point win was the program's largest margin of victory over a Division l opponent since 2008 (UC Irvine, 101-47) and it was the fewest points allowed to a Dl foe since 2016 (44 vs. Southern Utah).

Fifth-year guard Divant'e Moffitt continued to be the focal point offensively, delivering a team-high 22 points on 69 percent (9-of-13) shooting from the field and five assists. The scoring effort was Moffitt's fourth game with 20-plus points and third time this season shooting over 63 percent.

Isaac Jones continued to provide a paint presence for the Vandals, as the junior forward/center had 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

The two teams battled back and forth for much of the first half, with either team leading by no more than two possessions. Idaho found its cushion near the end of the first half, using a 13-5 run highlighted by hot shooting from Moffitt. He went 3 for 3 from behind the arc and scored Idaho's final 9 of 11 points, including a three at the buzzer to give the Vandals a 35-24 advantage heading into the locker room.

Idaho continued its hot shooting out of the break, scoring five straight baskets to make it 45-28 with 16:16 left in the half. The Vandals stretched their lead to 20 points with just under 14 minutes to play and would not let off the gas the rest of the way, as a 20-6 run in the final 6:48 would secure the 84-47 win.

Idaho was incredible offensively in the second half, shooting 64 percent (18-of-28) from the field and 42 percent (5-of-12) from three. Idaho's bench also stepped up in a big way, outscoring NIU 26 to 15.

Dominique Ford led off the bench and provided a spark with 12 points, while freshman forward Nigel Burris added his second consecutive double-digit scoring effort with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Vandals will look to continue its winning streak when they welcome North Dakota to Moscow on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.
