SAN DIEGO – Beyonce Bea scored 34 points for the second consecutive game, but Idaho women's basketball gave up a late three-pointer to allow Nevada to tie the game and fell 84-80in overtime Saturday evening at the University of San Diego Winter Classic.
Bea scored 34 points on 14-21 shooting from the field and 6-7 shooting from the line. She also added a game-high 12 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season and the 18th of her career.
Tiana Johnson added 12 points and
Ashlyn Wallace scored 11. Rosa smith tallied six assists and
Sydney Gandy added five.
Nevada jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Vandals answered with an 11-0 run. The two teams battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the quarter before the Vandals took a 25-19 advantage after the first quarter.
The Wolfpack had a huge second quarter, outscoring the Vandals 23-11 in the frame to take a 42-36 lead at the break.
Idaho battled back and tied the game at 61 with 6:41 left in the fourth quarter and finally regained the lead on a Johnson three-pointer with just under two minutes left. A pair of Wallace free throws extended the lead to 69-66 with 12 second left, but Nevada's Audrey Roden tied the game up with late three-pointer to force overtime.
Nevada outscored the Vandals 15-11 in the overtime period to earn the 84-80 win.
Idaho was 30-77 (39%) from the field and 5-18 (27.8%) from the three-point line. The Vandals had 16 turnovers to just nine for Nevada.
With tonight's performance, Bea is now averaging 24.8 points and 10 rebounds per game.
The loss drops Idaho to 1-4 on the year, but the Vandals have the opportunity to get back on the hardwood tomorrow against New Mexico State.
