Idaho Men’s Basketball Hosts North Dakota Tuesday

MOSCOW, Idaho – After picking up its second win in a row this past Friday, the Idaho men's basketball team will look to carry its momentum over to a matchup against North Dakota on Tuesday. Action is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. ICCU Arena.

Last Time Out
Idaho picked up its largest win over a Division l opponent in over 14 years, defeating Northern Illinois by a score of 84-47 at ICCU Arena. The 37-point win was the program's largest margin of victory over a Dl foe since 2008 (UC Irvine, 101-47) and fewest points allowed by an Idaho defense since 2016 (44 vs. Southern Utah). 

The Vandals shot 55 percent (31-of-56) from the field and held the Huskies to 33 percent (18-of-54) shooting - the lowest mark by an opposing Division l team since 2020 (32% vs. Sacramento State). 

Four Vandals scored in double digits, including a team-high 22 points from fifth-year guard Divant'e Moffitt. He shot 9-of-13 from the field and added five assists in his fourth 20-plus point effort of the year. Isaac Jones posted 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in the contest. Dom Ford delivered 12 points on 4 for 5 shooting off the bench, while Nigel Burris recorded his second consecutive double figure effort with 11 points in 16 minutes of action.  

Scouting the Fighting Hawks
North Dakota is sitting .500 on the season with a 5-5 record and 2-3 mark on the road. UND looks to rebound after losing two straight to Iowa State (44-63) and Portland (69-90). The Vandals and Fighting Hawks have faced two common opponents this season in Pacific and Utah Tech. North Dakota dropped a home game to the Tigers, 93-63 and earned a 67-52 win over the Trailblazers in Grand Forks.
 
The Fighting Hawks are well rounded on the offensive end with nine players averaging at least five points. B.J. Omot leads the team with 11.5 points per game on a 42 percent clip from the field.   

Offensively, UND averages 68.2 points per game while allowing 72.3. North Dakota ranks first in Summit League in bench points, averaging 30.5 per game. 

Series History 
Tuesday's matchup will be the 10th time the two programs have faced off and the first time since 2018-19. Idaho is 6-3 all-time and 3-1 at home. The Vandals have won three straight against the Fighting Hawks and most recently posted a 67-54 win in 2018. 

Vandal Notables
  • Offensively, the Vandals rank as one of the top teams in the country in terms of field goal percentage. Its 51.1 percent average from the field is first in the Big Sky and rated eighth in the nation. Through eight games, Idaho has shot at least 53 percent five times, including over the last four contests.
  • The two players leading the charge in that department are Spanaway, WA natives Isaac Jones and Divant'e Moffitt. Jones and Moffitt are ranked first and second in the conference, respectively in field goal percentage. Jones is making 75 percent (57-of-76) of his shots from the field, which is also the sixth best mark in the nation. Moffitt is shooting 55.7 percent (49-of-88), including 67.6 percent over the last three games. 
  • Jones is also first in the league in scoring at 19.7 points per game. The junior big man has scored in double figures in each of the seven games he has appeared in and posted at least 20 points in three contests. He has shot over 75 percent in four games and above 83 percent in two games. 
  • Not only is Moffitt a top four scorer in the conference at 17.2 ppg, he's also a top three passer with an average of 5.4 assists per game. The fifth-year guard from Spanaway has scored 20-plus points in four games this season and tallied six or more assists in three. Over his last three games, he's averaging 21.3 points on 68 percent (25-of-37) shooting and 5.7 assists. 
  • In the Big Sky, Idaho is ranked second in scoring offense (76.2) and scoring defense (67.2), and third in assist/turnover ratio (1.05), three point percentage (35.2) and turnovers per game (13).
  • Sophomore guard Yusef Salih leads the team with 16 made threes on an average of two per game. The Gainesville, Virginia native has made two or more shots from behind the arc in six of eight games. He averages the fourth most points per game at 8.3.
  • Nigel Burris added his fourth double digit scoring performance in the win over Northern Illinois. Burris is shooting a team-high 48 percent (10-of-21) from three. 
  • Jones is leading the Vandals on the glass with 7.3 rebounds a game - the sixth most in the conference. He has secured at least 10 boards in two games this year. 
  • After averaging 25 ppg on 73 percent shooting and 6.5 rebounds over two games at Cal Poly and Pacific, Jones was selected as the Big Sky Player of the week for the first time in his career.
